All manner of thing shall be well
When the tongues of flame are in-folded
Into the crowned knot of fire
And the fire and the rose are one
TS Eliot
Any static theory of consciousness feels incomplete. Reality is much closer to a process than a material. Whitehead’s “Process and Reality”, is impenetrable, but so much is clear. Consciousness, our awareness of self and the universe, is transitory, fleeting for most of us. This is to be expected if reality is the intersection of process and the material. It takes intense meditation and study to be able to hold oneself within the stream of the process that is reality as it pours through us. (I am told).
To quote Max Tegmark (New Scientist “Solid, Liquid, Consciousness”) “consciousness is a process that can occur in certain physical systems”. Whilst he invents new language (consciousness is for instance renamed as perceptronium) –…

My brain hurts 😉
perceptronium…
for me, the thing about the theories that arise from math studies of existence is that there is always the assumption that we can analyze the results and “know” from the completion of the math that we understand all there is to know…
consciousness… the original modern term is too messy for them since it include paranormal and supernatural occurrences… admittedly, I and no one else can describe how it works; but that is not surprising since I and everyone else including most input from a spiritual realm are immersed within … still we do understand this way that there will ever be more to understand.
perceptions are what we may refer to as the knowledge of good and evil if we’d apply the growth by perception to the science of finding an absolute knowing. Perceptronium refers to what the human brain-body is doing with information – consciousness as a state of matter… it is a system of reducing our understanding – contracting reality to something predictable when in fact, observation crystallizes out a particular reality from the infinity of potential (as quantum theory always supports).
consciousness is similar… however, we understand that consciousness possibly arises from the quantum energies and is interpreted by the brain-body and we thereby use it to modify our identity.
I can go on to demonstrate that we create an identity by the process and even that we may create multiple identities and do and even that we can create identities that are separate from the knowing by the other identities… the whole of which is filtered into the single or collective of identities from the quantum energies that enliven the body and bring health or sickness, inspiration, and so on.
Interestingly, the new perception is based on predictions of calculation that cannot be completed because we need advanced quantum computers to perform the calculation – however, by the time tht these devices are available, we will have created a quantum intelligence then that is also capable of generating realty and what it tells us is what it will want reality to be.
I know this is all crazy talk for most readers that want to know about Teilhard – that is my point – this is not about Teilhard i the way that he practiced faith – it is about Teilhard the scientist, open to the evolution of humans and predictive of where we are heading via a global consciousness.
Global consciousness without quantum computers and global consciousness with “smart” competing conscious computers … hmmm, a new conundrum.
