I am very happy that you have found and shared the links to the Teilhard books I posted on archiveorg!

  2. Patricia says:

I would like to know what he thought about original sin?

    • Patricia, thank you for stopping by and for your excellent question. Teilhard de Chardin’s views on Original Sin “evolved” (pun intended:-) during his lifetime. Teilhard clearly acknowledged the existence of Original Sin and viewed it as part of creation of the Universe. Christ is the ultimate conqueror of Original Sin. A good summary of Teilhard’s views can be found here and the link below. I hope to do a series on the evolution of Teilhard de Chardin’s views on Original Sin some time this year.

I was wondering why Teilhard de Chardin’s book, Building the Earth, is not included in your list of his writing.

    • Thank you for your comment and for your interest. It is a good question. The books on the list are those that have been digitized through the Community Books open source initiative. I have not found “Building the Earth” available yet (although the search and indexing function is far from perfect so if I am wrong, please provide a link and I will include it, as well as any other books I missed).

      Peace,
      W. Ockham

  5. I am searching for the quote, “By our fidelity we must build – starting with the most natural territory of our own self –
a work, an opus, into which something enters from all the elements of the earth.
    We make our own soul
    throughout all our earthly days;
and at the same time we collaborate
in another work, in another opus,
    which infinitely transcends,
while at the same time it narrowly determines,
    the perspectives of our individual achievement;
the completion of the world .”

Do you know where this is from?

  6. Benneth Husted says:

    Hello
I’m new to the world of publishing. Just finished a memoir and want to use a couple of Teilhard quotes but don’t know which books they are from so can’t figure out which publisher to contact for permission.
You say that 21 of his most famous books are available for free through Community Books open source initiative. Does that mean I can quote him without getting permission?

    Thanks for your help,
    Benneth

  8. Ramon de Vera Ph.D says:

Teilhard de Chardin wrote the Pope a letter where can I find a copy? I read that letter long ago as a student where he said that he will obey the Pope but that he cannot change his beliefs just like he cannot change the color of his eyes. Many thanks. Ramon M. de Vera Ph.D.

  9. Barb Joy says:

Looking for a book-not sure if de Chardin was the author. it contained photos with descriptions/quotes by de Chardin. It was a largish book, like a “coffee table” book. I read it in 1969.
I’m looking for information with the possibility for purchase. Hoping you might know the book I am describing and have some information. Thanks!

  10. Pat says:

I kept having Teilhard’s name come up and The Phenomenon of Man and amazingly the link to this site “happened” and i now have it available to read and digest Grateful Thanks

  11. Ed Mowrey says:

I’ve been looking for a quoto also–the one which (in recent years) has been used by (and attributed to) Wayne Dyer. I believe it was originally from De Chardin. I paraphrase very loosley: “We are not human beings in search of a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings emersed in a human experience.”

    • Ramon "arps" M. de Vera Ph.D. says:

I am also looking for a copy of Teilhard de Chardin SJ letter to the Pope where he expressed obedience but at the same time says that he could not change what he perceives much like he could not change the color of his eyes.

      • Laura says:

Teilhard wrote a letter like this to the Jesuit General in Rome. I believe it is reprinted in Pierre Leroy’s Letters from My Friend. Could that be the one you remember?

Do you by chance know the source of this TdC quote: “An irregularity in nature is only the sharp exacerbation, to the point of perceptible disclosure, of a property of things diffused in nature, in a state which eludes our recognition of its presence.”

    • Teresa Moran says:

      Thank you for the update.
I would like to have for information on the “Community Books” I am retired and would love to read what I missed from Teilhard’s wrintings.

  16. Edmund Neal Jr says:

I would love to know the quote that starts: There is almost a sensual longing for communion for others who have a larger vision. The immense fulfillment of friendship………..
