I would like to know what he thought about original sin?
Patricia, thank you for stopping by and for your excellent question. Teilhard de Chardin’s views on Original Sin “evolved” (pun intended:-) during his lifetime. Teilhard clearly acknowledged the existence of Original Sin and viewed it as part of creation of the Universe. Christ is the ultimate conqueror of Original Sin. A good summary of Teilhard’s views can be found here and the link below. I hope to do a series on the evolution of Teilhard de Chardin’s views on Original Sin some time this year.

I was wondering why Teilhard de Chardin’s book, Building the Earth, is not included in your list of his writing.
Thank you for your comment and for your interest. It is a good question. The books on the list are those that have been digitized through the Community Books open source initiative. I have not found “Building the Earth” available yet (although the search and indexing function is far from perfect so if I am wrong, please provide a link and I will include it, as well as any other books I missed).

I’m new to the world of publishing. Just finished a memoir and want to use a couple of Teilhard quotes but don’t know which books they are from so can’t figure out which publisher to contact for permission.
You say that 21 of his most famous books are available for free through Community Books open source initiative. Does that mean I can quote him without getting permission?

Teilhard de Chardin wrote the Pope a letter where can I find a copy? I read that letter long ago as a student where he said that he will obey the Pope but that he cannot change his beliefs just like he cannot change the color of his eyes. Many thanks. Ramon M. de Vera Ph.D.
Looking for a book-not sure if de Chardin was the author. it contained photos with descriptions/quotes by de Chardin. It was a largish book, like a “coffee table” book. I read it in 1969.

I’ve been looking for a quoto also–the one which (in recent years) has been used by (and attributed to) Wayne Dyer. I believe it was originally from De Chardin. I paraphrase very loosley: “We are not human beings in search of a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings emersed in a human experience.”
I am also looking for a copy of Teilhard de Chardin SJ letter to the Pope where he expressed obedience but at the same time says that he could not change what he perceives much like he could not change the color of his eyes.
Teilhard wrote a letter like this to the Jesuit General in Rome. I believe it is reprinted in Pierre Leroy’s Letters from My Friend. Could that be the one you remember?

Do you by chance know the source of this TdC quote: “An irregularity in nature is only the sharp exacerbation, to the point of perceptible disclosure, of a property of things diffused in nature, in a state which eludes our recognition of its presence.”
